In my bag I first chose to include a Seashell. I love the beach so much – it’s the best place in whole world. I can look out into the sea. I love collecting shells. The seashell is also a shelter for those crabs, and a shelter for so many.
The sea goddess Yemanja represents the goddess within us all.
For me crystals are very important, they represent my femininity, and the power of transformation, how you can overcome the challenges in life.
I’ve also chosen to include the polaroid photo of my drag queen persona: Hot Cherry. I had so much fun. I connected to my inner child. I got this insight and memory, little Suzanna was fearless, never shy, loving pink and being spontaneous. Sometimes we forget those other parts of ourselves.
And lastly I have chosen some images. I’ve included a print of a butterfly. It is similar to my tattoo and it represents the challenges I face and the resilience to overcome those challenges. The sunflower is a reminder “Don’t forget to shine”. And the image of the logo [of] Her Story Matters which, for me, demonstrates the importance [of] women living with HIV speak[ing] up[.] [W]e are strong as individuals and we are strong together.
